Newfoundland Jumps Into Water to ‘Save' His Baby Without Hesitation
If I could have a Newfoundland, you can trust that I definitely would. I would love to have one of them: they're just so huge and lovable! Unfortunately, though, I don't think a 200-pound grizzly bear in my house is a good fit for me right now.
One family has one, though, and he's incredible. Their Newfoundland is a perfect match for their home, especially since they have small kids. It's like having a dog, an uncle, and a lifeguard rolled into one:

Chewy the Newfie wasted absolutely no time jumping into that water to save his baby. Chewy joined the family after his human did, but he's basically her guardian now. He walks her to the bus stop every day, and whenever they're at the beach, he's there!
His parents put a lifejacket on him every time, just to be safe, but he's allowed to swim whenever he'd like as long as he has it. Most of the time, he only jumps in when his baby asks for him. Like in this video, she called out to Chewy to help her!

She was totally fine, and she was wearing a lifejacket, too. She just likes to make him feel like she needs him, and she's not the only one! Chewy saved his dad that day, too:

Chewy looks very handsome in his lifejacket. If I could pay to have him save me in the water, too, I definitely would. He looks like he really enjoys it!
Newfoundlands Were Bred For Saving People
What Chewy is doing is entirely natural to him: this is the kind of thing Newfoundlands were bred to do! Clearly, he's good at it, too.
Newfoundlands were recorded beginning in the 1700s in Newfoundland, Canada. They were meant to be rescue dogs: they would go on fishing boats and rescue any fisherman who fell into the water.
As a result, Newfoundlands are typically strong swimmers. They can go pretty fast, but to keep them as safe as possible, you should always put a lifejacket on them. That's what kept Chewy (and his baby) safe!
