Legendary Franchises Anchor Playstation Plus June Game Catalog Release

Variety is the spice of life and the Playstation Plus Game Catalog for June.

While the upcoming lineup has an obvious headliner, there is a wide range of games PS Plus subscribers will be able to access this month.

That includes famous fantasy RPGs, big-name characters in platform fun and good, old-fashioned simulations.

Sony is also experimenting with a new calendar for rolling out the games.

New Final Fantasy and Sonic the Hedgehog experiences

The most eye-catching name of a game in the lineup is Final Fantasy XVI.

The latest in the series first dropped on the Playstation 5 in 2023 and sold over 3 million copies in its first week.

It has a score of 87 on Metacritic and introduces more action than previous versions of the classic role-playing game series.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is another June game catalog game that offers some new blood for an old gaming series. In this case, gamers take control of Shadow, a darker version of venerable Sonic the Hedgehog who is more willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

Touch (virtual) grass

For something completely different, PS Plus gamers will also get the chance to get outside - virtually - if they download Farming Simulator 25 at the end of the month.

Another game that achieved great commercial success, Farming Simulator 25 has both single- and multiplayer modes for folks who want to see what it's like to try to live off the land.

This version includes maps in North America, East Asia and Central Europe.

Over 400 machines are available from more than 150 brands - no need to choose simply between something Case IH red or John Deere green - and new animals to raise include goats and water buffalo.

Of course, cows, pigs, horses, sheep, chickens, goats and more farm animals are also available, and you can choose to grow anything from corn and beans to olives and sugarcane.

Other games available in June

If none from that trio floats your boat, there are other options.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance offers RPG game play in an open world, Life is Strange: Double Exposure is a supernatural mystery adventure, and Black Desert is a massively multiplayer RPG while Blades of Fire is a tactical combat game that introduces players to a warrior capable of forging true steel in a world where metal turns to stone.

If that's not enough, those who subscribe to the Premium tier of Playstation Plus will get the opportunity to download Gitaroo Man, a quirky title from Playstation 2 in which music is a weapon to be tamed for winning battles.

When are June Playstation Plus games available?

Instead of having every game drop at the same time, they are dropping on different dates this month.

That includes Sonic X Shadow Generations being available since June 10.

Here is the schedule for the remaining games being released in the United States:

• June 16: Final Fantasy XVI, Gitaroo Man
• June 23: Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Life is Strange: Double Exposure
• June 30: Farming Simulator 25, Blades of Fire, Black Desert
