Man Takes Kitten on First Camping Trip and Gets a Rainbow Surprise
Unfortunately for me, I've never taken a kitten camping, which feels like a major personal failure now that I've seen how magical it can be. I've camped with my dogs, I've seen plenty of pups around the campfire, and I fully understand the joy of bringing your best little creature along for an adventure. But a tiny kitten experiencing her first sleeping bag, first big rock, and first rainbow? That is a whole different level of cute.
In the video, this kitten gets the kind of first camping trip people dream about. The caption explains that she's going camping and seeing her first rainbow, which already sounds like the setup for a children's book that would absolutely make me cry in public.

Hey! Baby - Bruce Channel
At first, she's sitting on a sleeping bag, taking in the giant universe outside her new digs. She's small, precious, and clearly processing the fact that her living room has been replaced with trees, rocks, fresh air, and whatever mysterious sounds happen outside a tent.
Then she's out exploring safely in a harness and leash, which is what I would have done. She isn't just being plopped into the wild and expected to figure it out. Her human is giving her a protected little way to experience the world, one cautious kitten step at a time.
She climbs up big rocks like a tiny mountain lion in training, and that may be the moment she fully became an adventure cat. You can see her figuring things out. Sniffing. Looking around. Taking in a world that must feel enormous from her size.
Of course, not every part of the trip gets a glowing kitten review.
The rain arrives, and she doesn't appear to be thrilled about that development. Many cats would like nature a lot more if nature didn't occasionally fall from the sky. She may enjoy the views, the rocks, and the cozy sleeping bag, but wet weather seems to be a hard no.
Still, the rainbow makes it all feel worth it. A first camping trip is already special, but a first rainbow on top of that is almost unfairly adorable. One viewer summed up the feeling beautifully, saying her human is giving her an incredible life and letting the rest of us peek in for a moment. You feel lucky just to watch. I sure do.
By the end, the kitten is passed out in the car, completely exhausted from her big outdoor adventure. That little nap says everything. She climbed, explored, endured rain, saw a rainbow, and then surrendered fully to the kind of sleep only a baby animal can have after a very important trip.
This isn't just about camping.
It's about core memories with whiskers.
How To Safely Take a Cat Outdoors
If you want to take your kitty on outdoor adventures, start slow. A well-fitted harness, leash training, short practice sessions, and plenty of patience can help your cat feel safer and more confident. You'll also want to watch their body language closely, because a feline who is overwhelmed may freeze, hide, or try to bolt. I always bring a large zip-up carrier that my dog feels safe in. It's especially helpful during chaotic moments, like when you're cooking dinner at camp, because you know they're secure and comfortable.
Cats Protection shares helpful guidance on using cat harnesses safely, including making sure your cat is comfortable before heading outdoors. Not every kitty wants to be an adventure cat, and that's OK. The goal is to make the experience safe, calm, and positive.
This kitten may not have loved the rain, but she got the rainbow, and honestly, that's a pretty perfect first trip.
