Nancy Guthrie Update: Expert Reveals Next Steps in Mexico Grave Search
Following multiple anonymous tips that Nancy Guthrie's body could be in Mexico, the Pima County Sheriff's Department has undertaken an extensive search of the area in recent days, yet discovered nothing to suggest the reports are correct (via Parade).
Last week, Mexican volunteer search group Buscando Corazones Nogales received a phone call informing them that Guthrie was buried in an unmarked grave in the Mariposa area, near the border with Arizona.
The PCSD launched a full-scale investigation of the area, also searching the nearby city of Nogales for clues. The team discovered at least 25 unmarked graves, but none that displayed any relevance to the case.
In the wake of this large-scale investigation, former Pima County SWAT Defender Bob Krygier appeared on Brian Entin Investigates with NewsNation journalist Brian Entin to reveal the next steps that the search team should be taking.
Krygier claimed that the search team should "absolutely" consider expanding their focus to the Tohono O'odham Nation Reservation, near Guthrie's home in Tucson, Arizona. "It's huge. There's a lot of…most of it is just the desert. … There is an open border on the reservation."
The SWAT commander pointed out that the reservation includes several areas where an abductor could transfer Guthrie across the Mexican border, perhaps explaining all the tips in the Nogales area.
"If I were a betting man and someone said they absolutely went into Mexico, I'd say they probably went through the reservation at some point," he stated. However, he also explained that investigating here can be a challenge since the relationship between the FBI and tribal police can be "delicate at the best of times."
Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on February 1, 2026, and remains missing. Her family is currently offering a reward of $1,000,000 for any information that leads to her return, while the FBI is offering a further $100,000. Anybody with information is urged to call 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324), or leave an anonymous tip at tips.fbi.gov.
