Billy Bob Thornton Reassures Fans: Tommy Norris Will Stay on 'Landman' for Season 3
If there's one thing Landman has proven, it's that no character is guaranteed a long future in Taylor Sheridan's world.
The Paramount+ drama stunned viewers during its first season when Jon Hamm's character, Monty Miller, was unexpectedly killed off, proving that even the show's biggest stars aren't necessarily safe.
That reality left some fans wondering whether Tommy Norris could eventually face a similar fate. Fortunately for viewers, Billy Bob Thornton doesn't seem too concerned. Speaking with Us Weekly at the Newport Beach TV Fest, Thornton suggested that Sheridan has no immediate plans to write Tommy out of the series.
"I think Taylor is going to let me hang around," Thornton said.
It's a reassuring update for Landman fans, particularly given where the story left Tommy at the end of Season 2.
Tommy Norris Remains at the Center of the Story
Since Monty's death, Tommy has become even more important to the show's narrative. The longtime landman stepped into a larger leadership role at M-Tex while simultaneously becoming more involved in the business ventures surrounding his son Cooper.
As a result, Tommy remains deeply connected to nearly every major storyline unfolding in Sheridan's oil-industry drama. That's one reason Thornton's comments are likely to be welcomed by fans who feared another major cast shakeup could be coming.
Even the Cast Doesn't Know What's Next
Of course, predicting where Sheridan will take the story has never been easy. Ali Larter, who plays Angela Norris, admitted she has no idea what Season 3 will bring.
"I really can't even assume or try to guess what Taylor is going to imagine for Season 3," Larter said.
What she does know is that the cast has now spent enough time together that the relationships between the characters feel fully developed. According to Larter, Sheridan will likely continue leaning into those dynamics as the series moves forward.
Andy Garcia, who joined the series in Season 2, expressed a similar level of confidence in Sheridan's storytelling.
"I'm in Taylor's hands," Garcia said. "I'm in it to win it."
Garcia praised Sheridan's ability to create layered characters and weave together storylines that feel both dramatic and grounded in human relationships.
"He has a flair for the dramatic," Garcia said, while also highlighting Sheridan's understanding of family dynamics and personal relationships.
What It Means for Season 3
While Thornton stopped short of revealing any plot details, his comments strongly suggest Tommy Norris will remain a central figure moving forward. That's important news for a show that has already demonstrated a willingness to make bold and unexpected moves with its cast.
In Taylor Sheridan's universe, surprises are always possible. But for now, Landman fans can breathe a little easier. Tommy Norris doesn't appear to be going anywhere.
