Disney+ Quietly Adds 7 Jaw-Dropping Shark Documentaries for Viral 'Sharkfest' Event

This summer, National Geographic is bringing seven thrilling shark documentaries to various streaming services to celebrate the annual Sharkfest event.

The documentaries will land on Disney+ and Hulu in the United States on July 5, giving audiences plenty of time to watch these extreme pieces of filmmaking throughout the summer months.

The major spotlight of this year's Sharkfest is Up Close with Bertie Gregory, an acclaimed documentary series where filmmaker Bertie Gregory follows the daily lives of dangerous animals. This season will follow hammerhead sharks, with Gregory swimming in Mexico's Pacific waters to explore how protected waters impact hammerhead habitats.

The show will also be aired live on the National Geographic channel at 8 p.m. on July 5 for those who want to watch along with the rest of the world. This year, all Sharkfest shows will also be airing on the Disney Channel and Disney XD for the first time.

World's Biggest Mako comes next, taking a look at the rare breed of shark that lives off the coast of New Zealand. The shortfin mako can weigh anywhere between 60 and 140 kg, with top swimming speeds reaching upwards of 74km/h.

Attack of the Samurai Sharks is one of Sharkfest's unique documentaries, investigating a 3,000-year-old cold case that experts believe could be the first ever human victim of a shark attack.

For audiences looking for more of a thrill-seeking documentary, Shark vs. Giant Croc should scratch that itch, highlighting the habitat conflict between sharks that share waters with giant crocodiles. Great White Sharks and Saltwater Crocodiles typically provide some of nature's most brutal fights, with sharks dominating in open waters and crocodiles ruling murky waters and shallow estuaries.

Further documentaries include Shark Island Showdown, Sharks: Reef Rivals, and Great White Gauntlet, which all give viewers an in-depth look at how sharks survive in the wild and interact with other dangerous sea creatures.

This year's Sharkfest lineup has something for everybody; there's true crime mysteries, nail-biting nature conflicts, and educational documentaries for those looking to learn more about one of the oceans' greatest natural forces. All documentaries will be available from July 5, 2026, on Disney+, Hulu, and National Geographic channels.
