Steam Machine Shocking Price Tag Finally Revealed
Valve's upcoming Steam Machine is set to be a "PC gaming console," having the portability and design of a typical video game console but the power and library of a PC. The price tag has now been officially revealed, and it's more than you may be expecting.
Listed on the official Steam page for the Steam Machine, the base 512 GB version of the Steam Machine will cost $1049. There are more versions of the device, with the 512 GB plus controller bundle costing $1128. 512 GB in 2026 is fairly low for storage, so fans may have to shell out even more cash.
The version that comes with 2 TB of storage is going to run buyers $1349. The 2 TB version plus controller bundle costs a grand total of $1428. All of these prices, of course, do not account for currency exchange rates, shipping, or applicable taxes.
The rumored price tag was around $1000, so it turns out the official entry-level version is actually around the same price as the early rumors and leaks.
The Steam Machine boasts a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 CPU, an RDNA 3 GPU, and 16GB of DDR5 RAM. The specs put the device in a comparable range to the base PlayStation 5 from Sony.
What is probably most notable is that the base version of the Steam Machine does not come with a dedicated controller. However, most modern gamepads that do work with Steam on PC will also work with the Steam Machine.
Over on X, fan reactions are predominantly negative, with most comments directed at the high price tag.
"Not at those price points, nope. The market for this was slightly less than a PS5 Pro with slightly more functionality. Makes no sense otherwise," wrote Franke from Flatbush.
The Steam Machine will be available for purchase on June 29 via a reservation queue system on the official Steam website.
