United Airlines Moving Forward With a Change

Summer travel season is upon us, and United Airlines is among the airlines working to get people from one destination to the next in the most pleasurable way.

Now, United is implementing a change, and it's a good one for people who want more room. According to reports from Business Insider and The Points Guy, United Airlines is responding to customers' requests for more room by planning to make the interior of a portion of its aircraft feel roomier by changing the layout of the seats.

The reports state that United's Airbus A321XLR is going to feature a "Eurobusiness" layout for its economy class, featuring blocked middle seats with a tray table.

"United confirmed to Business Insider that the concept is real and will be on its new Airbus A321XLRs," Business Insider stated.

"We're always evaluating and testing new ways to further differentiate ourselves within the industry and add even more value to the experience of flying United," United Airlines said in a statement.

United Airlines Announces Another Change as Summer Travel Season Booms

This isn't the first United change for economy passengers. Last spring, United announced an upgrade to its aircraft that allowed the carrier's seats to transform into a couch in its economy cabin. The offering, called "United Relax Row," comes with a variety of amenities, including a custom-fitted mattress pad, a specially sized plush blanket and two additional pillows, plus a plush toy and children's travel kit for families.

The United Relax Row is expected to be available in 2027, and United plans to offer it on more than 200 Boeing 787 and 777 widebody aircraft by 2030. The seats will be located between United Economy and United Premium Plus.

"As a leading premium airline, we're committed to delivering new, industry-leading experiences for all of our customers – and the United Relax Row is the perfect example of that," Andrew Nocella, United's executive vice president and chief commercial officer, said in a statement at the time.

He added: "Customers traveling in United Economy on long-haul flights deserve an option for more space and comfort, and this is one way we can deliver that for them."
