There are more Cape Fear Seafood locations planned for the Triangle. First up: Cary.

A popular Wilmington seafood restaurant is adding a few more fish fryers to the Triangle.

The Cape Fear Seafood Company opened its first Triangle location earlier this year, moving into North Raleigh’s Springfield Commons shopping center, replacing the former Kamado Grille.

Now, it looks like there are at least two more Cape Fear restaurants in the works. Franchise owners Eddie Elliott and Matt Wivell signed a deal with the company to open two new restaurants in the next two to three years. The first will open in Cary, likely in the summer of next year.

“It’s been great being in Raleigh,” Elliott said in a phone interview. “We’ve been really well received; when we first came out here it was crazy busy.”

The owners are finalizing a lease in Cary, Elliott said, which will lead to a newly built restaurant. Elliott declined to say where the restaurant is going until a lease is signed.

The third local Cape Fear restaurant will open somewhere in the Triangle, but at this point Elliott said there’s not a specific city.

Cape Fear first opened in Wilmington in 2008. A second was added by founder Evans Trawick in 2015, followed by a third in 2017, all in the Wilmington area. Elliott and Wivell both worked in Cape Fear’s Wilmington locations before becoming franchise owners last year.

In his review, News & Observer dining critic Greg Cox gave Cape Fear’s Raleigh location three and a half stars, complimenting its specialty, fried seafood, while encouraging diners to also try the bisque and seasonal catches.
