3 Raleigh restaurants with a B grade: This week’s Triangle sanitation scores (Feb. 9)
The News & Observer is publishing a weekly round-up of restaurant sanitation scores to keep you up-to-date on the health grades at Triangle spots.
Sanitation scores and their corresponding letter grades are used in North Carolina to assess restaurants’ adherence to rules and standards intended to mitigate and prevent the spread of foodborne illnesses.
You’ve likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurants you’ve visited, and The N&O previously explained what those scores mean and how they’re calculated.
Here are sanitation scores in Wake, Durham, Orange and Johnston counties for the week of Feb. 2-9.
Wake County sanitation scores
The Wake County sanitation grades database shows 100 restaurants were inspected between Feb. 2-9.
▪ Most restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.
▪ Three restaurants received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.
Don Beto’s Tacos (421 Chapanoke Rd. #105 in Raleigh) received a score of 88% during an inspection on Feb. 4.
- The restaurant was in violation of 23 state standards, with point deductions ranging from zero to 1.5 points.
- Violations included pans of raw chicken being stored above pans of beef in a reach-in cooler, several bags of cooked rice lacking proper date markings and a food thermometer being off by 10 degrees.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection, the inspection report shows.
The restaurant previously scored a 94% in November 2021, a 96.5% in July 2021 and a 97.5% in April 2021.
Hereghty Heavenly Delicious (2603 Glenwood Ave. #123 in Raleigh) received a score of 87.5% during an inspection on Feb. 4.
- The restaurant was in violation of 21 state standards, with point deductions ranging from zero to three points.
- Violations included the facility’s person in charge not maintaining the handwashing sink for employees, several foods not being stored at the proper cooling temperature and coolers not having thermometers or having broken ones. The inspection report notes that another inspection will be conducted by Feb. 14 to verify that working thermometers are in place.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection, the inspection report shows.
The restaurant previously scored a 93% in May 2021, a 96% in July 2020 and a 95% in January 2020.
Italian Kitchen of Raleigh (3209 Hillsborough St. in Raleigh) received a score of 89% during an inspection on Feb. 8.
- The restaurant was in violation of 13 state standards, with point deductions ranging from zero to three points.
- Violations included a “pattern of non-compliance” with multiple violations, multiple foods not being properly date-marked and mulitple foods not being stored at the correct temperature.
- Some violations were corrected during the inspection, the inspection report shows.
- The restaurant previously scored a 95% in September 2021 and a 94.5% in May 2021.
▪ No restaurants in Wake County received a C grade, or a score of at least 70% but less than 80%.
▪ No restaurants received a failing grade, or a score below 70%.

Durham County sanitation scores
The Durham County inspection management system shows that 37 restaurant inspections were completed between Feb. 2-9.
▪ All 37 restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.

Orange County sanitation scores
The Orange County inspection management system shows that 24 restaurants were inspected between Feb. 2-9.

Johnston County sanitation scores
The Johnston County sanitation inspections database shows that 27 restaurants were inspected between Feb. 2-9.
▪ All 27 restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.
