The fast casual chicken sandwich concept from Ashley Christensen has set an opening date for its Durham location.

BB’s Crispy Chicken will open on Friday, March 25 in Durham’s new University Hill shopping center. The move marks the first venture into Durham for the award-winning chef of Raleigh’s Poole’s Diner.

The first BB’s Crispy Chicken opened last October in Raleigh’s Midtown East shopping center, near Wegman’s on Wake Forest Road. The new fast casual brand was built as a local answer to the chicken sandwich craze sweeping the nation. Christensen partnered with MDO Holdings to create BB’s, initially launching with three locations in the Triangle.

The BB’s menu is built around fried chicken sandwiches meant to hold their crunch for over an hour. The brand calls it “shatteringly crisp” and features nine different sandwiches and more than a dozen different sauces.

Vegetarian options include fried green tomato sandwiches, and the menu of sides features fries, sweet potato waffle fries, slaw and fried cheese curds.

When BB’s launched in Raleigh as one of the Triangle’s most anticipated restaurant projects of the past couple of years, diners lined up for hours before the doors opened.

The Durham BB’s will be at 3109 Shannon Rd., Suite 200 in the University Hill shopping center, which also includes Happy & Hale, Bul Box, Alpaca, Zambrero’s and a future Gizmo Brew Works taproom.

The third local BB’s will open this spring in Cary’s Parkside Commons shopping center.

Beyond the Triangle the brand is looking at Charlotte, the Triad, Wilmington and even Richmond, Va for future locations, MDO president Doug Warf said last year.
