A popular, longtime North Hills restaurant has closed its doors for good
A longtime, popular North Hills restaurant has shut its doors for good.
When patrons walked up to the doors of Midtown Grille this week, they were greeted by a sign announcing the restaurant officially closed effective Tuesday, Sept. 13.
“It has been a pleasure to have served you for of these years, but it is with heavy hearts that we are officially closing Midtown Grille effective 9.13.2-22,” read the note on the door. “Thank you for all of the great times and great memories.”
The News & Observer reached out to Summit Hospitality for more information on the closing, but did not speak with a representative.
Midtown Grille, in the Lassiter section of North Hills, served everything from shrimp and grits at brunch to New Zealand rack of lamb at dinner.
Located at 4421 Six Forks Road, Suite 115 (between Bul Box and Main and Taylor) Midtown Grille had a front row seat to all the new developments in the North Hills area for the last 17 years.
Before changing the name and menu in 2005, the restaurant was called Cappers under the same management.
From Cappers to Midtown
Dating back to its days as Cappers, the restaurant was a place to go for more than a good meal.
While enjoying their meals, patrons could listen to jazz music, most of the time played on a piano.
After the reinvention, the jazz was gone, but the piano player was still there, playing dinner music on Friday and Saturday nights, The N&O reported at the time.
The former Cappers reinvented itself in 2005, adjusting to the growing area just off Raleigh’s Beltline.
The North Hills area was just starting to be referred to as midtown back then (because it was midway between downtown and North Raleigh).
