A third Asheville brewery is coming to the Triangle, this time to downtown Durham

The beer-thirsty Triangle is set to land another taproom from an out-of-town brewery.

The Asheville brewery DSSOLVR plans to launch its first satellite taproom in downtown Durham’s Geer Street district. DSSOLVR plans to open the new taproom in the spring of 2023.

The new 2,552-square-foot taproom will be part of a new apartment and retail complex called Atlas Durham on Rigsbee Road, near the Durham Food Hall, the Durham Farmers Market and other popular bars and restaurants.

Founded by Michael Semenec as a nomadic brewery in late 2018, DSSOLVR started by brewing its beers in other breweries, but put down roots in Asheville in 2019, launching its first production site and taproom. DSSOLVR quickly established itself as one of North Carolina’s newest brewing forces, making distinguished IPAs and wild ales and landing on beer magazine Hop Culture’s list of best new breweries of 2018.

DSSOLVR becomes the third brewery from beer-soaked Asheville to bring a taproom to the Triangle, joining Burial’s Raleigh location and Hi-Wire’s massive spot taproom. The brewery migration also goes east to west, as Wilmington’s New Anthem brewery is also opening a Raleigh location the Smoky Hollow development slated for next year.

Durham drinking district

The new DSSOLVR location also opens in the middle of Durham’s bustling drinking district, within a block of a dozen other bars and restaurants, including local breweries Fullsteam Brewery and Glass Jug Beer Lab.

Beyond beer, DSSOLVR plans to serve wine, cider, hard seltzer and mead.
