Upscale Raleigh steakhouse gets ‘B’ grade: Triangle sanitation scores (Dec. 13)

The News & Observer publishes a weekly roundup of restaurant sanitation scores to keep you up-to-date on the health grades at Triangle dining spots.

Sanitation scores and their corresponding letter grades are used in North Carolina to assess restaurants’ adherence to rules and standards intended to mitigate and prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.

You’ve likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurants you’ve visited, and The N&O previously explained what those scores mean and how they’re calculated.

Here are sanitation scores in Wake and Durham counties for the week of Dec. 6-13.

Wake County sanitation scores

The Wake County sanitation grades database shows at least 100 inspections were completed between Dec. 6-13.

Most restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.

Three restaurants received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.

Fusion Nine (1012 Morrisville Pkwy, Morrisville) received a score of 88.5% during an inspection on Dec. 9.

  • The restaurant was in violation of 11 state standards, with point deductions ranging from zero to two points.
  • Violations included an employee not washing their hands after touching raw chicken, raw lamb and chicken being stored above ready-to-eat foods, a container of cooked chicken lacking a date marking indicating when it was prepared and containers of chopped cauliflower and onions being stored on the floor.
  • Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
  • The restaurant previously scored a 94.5% in June, a 97% in December 2021 and a 96.5% in June 2021.

Perry’s Steakhouse (4509 Creedmoor Rd., Raleigh) received a score of 88% during an inspection on Dec. 6.

  • The restaurant was in violation of 20 state standards, with point deductions ranging from zero to 1.5 points.
  • Violations included several plastic and metal containers with stickers and residue being stored as clean, several foods being held at incorrect temperatures, several foods not being marked with their date of preparation and several food employees not wearing hair restraints.
  • Some violations were corrected during the inspection.

  • The restaurant previously scored a 92% in June of this year and October 2021 and a 90.5% in April 2021.

Thai’s Noodle (4101 Grace Park Dr., Morrisville) received a score of 86.5% during an inspection on Dec. 7.

  • The restaurant was in violation of 10 state standards, with point deductions ranging from zero to three points.
  • Violations included an employee handling a cooked chicken with their bare hands, multiple plates with residue being stored as clean and bulk containers of sauces and onions being stored on the floor.
  • Some violations were corrected during the inspection.

  • The restaurant previously scored a 94% in June and an 89% in November 2021, though the restaurant received a 97% upon reinspection later that month.

No restaurants in Wake County received a C grade, or a score of at least 70% but less than 80%.

No restaurants received a failing grade, or a score below 70%.

Durham County sanitation scores

The Durham County inspection management system shows that 25 restaurant inspections were completed between Dec. 6-13.

Most restaurants received an A grade.

One restaurant received a B grade.

KFC/Taco Bell (1804 S. Miami Blvd., Durham) received a score of 84% during an inspection on Dec. 9.

  • The restaurant was in violation of 14 state standards, with point deductions ranging from zero to three points.
  • Violations included the facility having “no managerial control,” an “excessive amount of mold” in the nozzles of the drink dispenser and several foods being held at incorrect temperatures.
  • Some violations were corrected during the inspection.

  • The restaurant previously scored a 93% in September, a 97% in April and a 96% in November 2021.

No restaurants in Durham County received a C grade or below.

Orange County sanitation scores

The Orange County inspection management system shows that 26 restaurants were inspected between Dec. 6-13.

All restaurants received an A grade.

The Johnston County sanitation inspections database shows that 41 restaurants were inspected between Dec. 6-13.

All restaurants received an A grade.
