Durham restaurant needs ‘deep cleaning’: Triangle sanitation scores (May 2)
The News & Observer publishes a weekly roundup of restaurant sanitation scores to keep you up-to-date on the health grades at Triangle dining spots.
Sanitation scores and their corresponding letter grades are used in North Carolina to assess restaurants’ adherence to rules and standards intended to mitigate and prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.
You’ve likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurants you’ve visited, and The N&O previously explained what those scores mean and how they’re calculated.
Here are sanitation scores in Triangle counties for the week of April 25-May 2.
Wake County sanitation scores
The Wake County sanitation grades database shows that 99 inspections were completed between April 25-May 2.
▪ Most restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.
▪ One restaurant received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.
Lime & Lemon Indian Grill (105 Friendly Drive, Raleigh) received a score of 84.5% during an inspection on April 26.
- The restaurant was in violation of 16 standards, with deductions ranging from zero to three points.
- Violations included employees changing tasks without changing their gloves or washing their hands, several containers of raw chicken being stored above ready-to-eat foods in the walk-in cooler, some foods being stored at improper temperatures and several foods being held past their date.
- Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
- The restaurant previously scored a 94% in November 2022, a 93% in June 2022 and a 94% in February 2022.
▪ No restaurants received a C grade, or a score of at least 70% but less than 80%.
▪ No restaurants received a failing grade, or a score below 70%.

Durham County sanitation scores
The Durham County inspection management system shows that 33 restaurant inspections were completed between April 25-May 2.
▪ Most restaurants received an A grade.
▪ One restaurant received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.
Twisted Noodles (4201 University Drive, Suite 112, Durham) received a score of 85% during an inspection on May 1.
- The restaurant was in violation of 18 standards, with deductions ranging from zero to three points.
- Violations included raw meats being stored above ready-to-eat foods in two coolers, several foods being held at improper temperatures, a bag of carrots being stored on the floor of a walk-in cooler and the facility being in need of “deep cleaning.”
- Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
- The restaurant previously scored a 92% in October 2022, a 91% in February 2022 and a 97.5% in July 2021.
▪ No restaurants received a C grade, or a score of at least 70% but lower than 80%.
▪ No restaurants received a failing grade.

Orange County sanitation scores
The Orange County inspection management system shows that seven restaurants were inspected between April 25-May 2.

The Johnston County sanitation inspections database shows that 22 restaurants were inspected between April 25-May 2.
