The owners of fast food giant Cook Out seem to be launching a new chicken and breakfast concept in Raleigh.

Signage went up recently for Roo’s Chicken on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh, next door to the longtime Cook Out location. The restaurant space was most recently a KFC location, which closed several years ago. The property was purchased in 2021 by Cook Out for $900,000.

The Raleigh Chicken Roo’s was first reported by Triangle Business Journal.

This would be the first Roo’s location ever, but crumbs have been dropped for years.

Corporate filings for a Roo’s Diner date back to 2018, but no restaurant has ever opened under that name. Cook Out owner Jeremy Reaves submitted filings in 2019 for a Taco Roo’s at the New Bern Avenue location. New filings were submitted this year for Chicken Roo’s.

Thomasville-based Cook Out previously served a menu under the name Taco Roo’s within a Wilmington location, but has since reverted the restaurant to a traditional Cook Out.

The exact menu for Chicken Roo’s remains a mystery, but signage on the restaurant promises breakfast will be part of the concept.

A call to Cook Out on Wednesday requesting more details on Chicken Roo’s has not been returned.
