In the latest departure of beloved Raleigh institutions, a three-decade pizzeria will close next month.

The carry-out spot Capital Creations Gourmet Pizza announced Thursday in an email that it will shut its doors after 31 years of pizza bliss.

The restaurant will remain open for one more month, closing for Thanksgiving and then not reopening.

“We can’t thank you enough, Raleigh, for letting us feed you for 31+ years,” the restaurant said in an email to customers. “Sadly it is time for us to move on to other adventures. We will continue to serve you until Thanksgiving but we will not reopen afterward.”

Opened by Jim and Beth Niver in 1992, Capital Creations served a distinctive brand of pizza that stood out in the Triangle for its inventiveness and willingness to believe just about anything belonged on a pizza. Inspired by popular dishes across cuisines, Capital Creations served spanakopita pizza, a chicken cordon bleu pie and in the summer months even a cold pizza resembling a seasonal garden salad.

Capital Creations had more than three dozen of its own pizza inventions and, as a Carolina pizzeria even served racks of baby-back ribs.

Situated off of Wake Forest Road between downtown Raleigh and the suburbs, Capital Creations fed a generation of pizza moments to families in and around the Beltline.
