A new family-owned ice cream shop has opened in Durham.

Pistachio Ice Cream opened this fall in a long-vacant space in the Tuscaloosa-Lakewood neighborhood next door to Taqueria La Vaquita.

The ice cream is served by cup or cone, or sandwiched between a pair of deliciously light wafer cookies.

Their namesake saffron pistachio is available regular or vegan. Other flavors include lavender, sour cherry, Turkish coffee, date and a few rosewater variations.

They also sell espresso drinks, tea, baklava and a funnel cake-like Iranian confection known as zoolbia.

Location: 2708 Chapel Hill Road, Durham

Hours: Open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
