A new bar landing in North Hills next year goes far beyond pet-friendly.

Founded in New York City, the pupper and human watering hole Barking Dog has picked North Hills for its first location outside of Manhattan.

The new North Hills restaurant will open across from the astroturf green of Midtown Park, next door to Blown Away hair salon.

Barking Dog has been around for more than 30 years, pioneering pet-friendly restaurants with locations in New York City neighborhoods Hell’s Kitchen and the Upper East Side.

The new North Hills location plans to have outdoor seating on a wide patio and serve an eclectic cafe menu, with salads, soups, sandwiches and pastas. There aren’t any specific dishes for pets, not even a hushpuppy, but a dog has never refused a french fry.

“We are excited to welcome our friends coming from NYC to North Hills,” said Stacey Buescher, director of operations at Kane Realty Corporation, owner of North Hills. “Their concept aligns beautifully with our dog-friendly philosophy and proximity to Midtown Park. This location will foster great synergy with the surrounding amenities, giving residents and visitors another fantastic place to dine and relax with their pets.”

Dog-friendly guidelines

The Triangle is filled with pet-friendly spots, where dogs are welcome on restaurant patios, backyard bars and brewery lawns. On its website, Barking Dog lists its dog-friendly guidelines, requiring that:

Dogs must be friendly with people and other dogs.

Dogs must be leashed at all times.

Dogs can’t be tied to any restaurant furniture.

Dogs should stay out of high-traffic zones.

Dog treats or chew toys improve behavior.

Barking Dog hasn’t announced a timeline but North Hills officials expect the restaurant to open in 2025.
