Triangle restaurant gets ‘C’ for live roaches found in kitchen: Sanitation scores (Dec. 3)

The News & Observer publishes a weekly roundup of restaurant sanitation scores to keep you up-to-date on the health grades at Triangle dining spots.

Sanitation scores and their corresponding letter grades are used in North Carolina to assess restaurants’ adherence to rules and standards intended to mitigate and prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.

You’ve likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurants you’ve visited, and The N&O previously explained what those scores mean and how they’re calculated.

Here are sanitation scores in Triangle counties for the week of Nov. 26-Dec. 2.

Wake County sanitation scores

The Wake County inspection management system shows that 66 restaurant inspections were completed Nov. 26-Dec. 2.

  • Most restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.

  • Two restaurants received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.

Chengdu 7 Sichuan Cuisine (748 E Chatham St. Suite E in Cary) received a score of 81% during an inspection on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

  • The restaurant was in violation of 17 standards.

  • Violations included food stored on the floor at room temperature, pans of cooked chicken stacked on top of each other and mold on the walk-in freezer door.

  • Some violations were corrected during the inspection.

  • The restaurant previously scored 90% in July.

Meeples Brew (9545 Chapel Hill Rd. in Morrisville) received a score of 88.5% during an inspection on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

  • The restaurant was in violation of 11 standards.

  • Violations included “encrusted food debris” found inside blender, spoons, scoops, ladles, soup bowls and coffee mugs.

  • Some violations were corrected during the inspection.

  • The restaurant previously scored 95% in March.

Durham County sanitation scores

The Durham County inspection management system shows 22 restaurant inspections were completed Nov. 26-Dec. 2.

  • Most restaurants received an A grade.

  • One restaurant received a B grade and another received a C grade.

Big T’s Fry Fish (2945 S Miami Blvd. Suite 102 in Durham) received a score of 88% during an inspection on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

  • The restaurant was in violation of 14 standards.

  • Violations included black/pink build up on the ice machine and none of the food items in the walk in cooler were below appropriate temperature.

  • Some violations were corrected during the inspection.

  • The restaurant previously scored 95% in July.

Chopstix Chinese (2000 Avondale Dr Suite B in Durham) received a score of 79% during an inspection on Nov. 26.

  • The restaurant was in violation of 24 standards.

  • Violations included two live cockroaches in the kitchen, numerous single service items, like styrofoam trays and boxes being reused and plastic grocery bags being used as food storage bags in the back storage area’s freezer unit.

  • Some violations were corrected during the inspection.

  • The restaurant previously scored 95% in August.

Orange County sanitation scores

The Orange County inspection management system shows that nine restaurant inspections were completed Nov. 26-Dec. 2.

  • All restaurants received an A grade.

The Johnston County inspection management system shows that six restaurant inspections were completed Nov. 26-Dec. 2.

The Chatham County inspections management system shows that five restaurant inspections were completed Nov. 26-Dec. 2.
