Downtown Raleigh will add a popular new sandwich shop next week.

A new location of Primo Hoagies will open on Fayetteville Street in Raleigh on Jan. 16. The popular sandwich shop first landed in the Triangle in 2022, opening in Raleigh’s North Hills to a line of customers at the door.

Specializing in Italian subs, Primo’s menu includes 40 different sandwiches, some stuffed with combinations of cured meats and sharp provolone. Other options include chicken parm, Italian-style tuna salad, meatballs, chicken cutlets and Philly-style roast pork.

The Triangle pair of Primos are owned by franchisees married couple Jacque and Matthew Engle, Amanda Wolsky and Allison Engle.

“Expanding with a second store in the Raleigh market is very exciting for us,” said Allison Engle in a news release. “The community in Raleigh has embraced PrimoHoagies and has been such a huge support as we share homemade, fresh, and authentic gourmet food options.”

For its grand opening on Jan. 16, it may be clear why fans line up early. The first 100 people through the door will get a free regular sized hoagie. After that, anyone who signs up for Primo’s rewards program can buy opening day sandiches for $7.

PrimoHoagies was named the best sandwich/sub shop in the country last summer in USA TODAY’s 10Best contest.
