One of the biggest rock stars in music history is eating his way through the Triangle dining scene.

Rock god Robert Plant dropped in for dinner Monday at a local hot spot ahead of his evening show Tuesday, March 31 at Raleigh’s Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts.

Robert Plant dined Monday night at Whiskey Kitchen, the popular restaurant on Nash Square in downtown Raleigh, and posed for photos with diners and restaurant staff.

Whiskey Kitchen general manager Jared Bouchard confirmed Plant’s dinner drop-in, saying he met a friend for a meal and a couple drinks.

“I am told that he was very nice,” Bouchard said.

Monday afternoon, a gentleman stopped by Whiskey Kitchen and gave the staff a heads up that someone famous but down-to-earth wanted to drop by later that night. Curious who might be in town, Bouchard checked out the local venues and saw that Robert Plant was in town this week.

“I thought, ‘It would be really cool if Robert Plant showed up,’” he said. “And lo and behold, Robert Plant showed up.”

Some of the Whiskey Kitchen staff that night were given backstage passes for Tuesday’s show, Bouchard said.

Robert Plant’s Triangle restaurant visits

It appears that Plant doesn’t settle for hotel room service when he’s in the Triangle. This isn’t the first time the Led Zeppelin frontman has dined at a Raleigh gem while in town.

In 2018, Plant arranged a late night snack at Garland restaurant, owned by fellow rockers Cheetie Kumar and Paul Siler. Garland had already wrapped up dinner service for the night, but let Plant in for a spread of just-made snacks and small plates made by Kumar.

“It’s one of those things you’ll always remember,” Kumar said in 2018. “After the show, they were looking for a place to have a drink, and when you’re Robert Plant, when you walk into a restaurant, you kind of stand out.”

It’s clear Plant has good taste in Triangle restaurants.

Back in 2011, he dropped in on a Triangle Wine Experience dinner at Poole’s Diner. Though it was a private ticketed dinner for charity, you don’t turn away a rock legend if he’s hungry.

Plant will play Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
