Favorite Things: $8 table

This refurbished $8 table has moved five times in 45 years and hosted hundreds of guests.
This refurbished $8 table has moved five times in 45 years and hosted hundreds of guests. Mary and Dave Davenport

Newly married, we had limited resources to furnish our first house. We found a beat-up dining room table for $8 at an old antique barn, got it home and refurbished it. It has been moved five times during our 45 years of marriage. As an international volunteer host family, we have had hundreds of international visitors and friends from Afghanistan to USSR seated and fed at this table. It creaks and groans every time we sit down to eat, and even though we can afford a new one, we can barely part with the fond memories of so many meals of hospitality and good cheer.
