Take craft classes at Gather in Cary

Gather in Cary has a few upcoming craft classes.

Here is the schedule:

▪ Learn to make a gorgeous fiber wrapped necklace from 6:30-8:30 p.m. July 21. Local maker Erica Fink will teach how to make these necklaces as well as how to make tassels and pom poms to embellish necklaces or whatever else you fancy. Cost: $30.

▪ Craft a handsome denim apron from 6:30-9:30 p.m. July 23. You will get to choose from three options: a waist apron, full length or a Japanese-style apron. Cost: $55.

▪ Cameras and cocktails class from 6:30-9:30 p.m. July 27. Improve your photography and drink a glass (or two) of wine. This course is taught by a local portrait photographer. Cost: $70.

▪ Create a stunning summer wreath from 6:30-8:30 p.m. July 28. Students will take home a summer wreath that they have made from scratch. Cost: $50.

Plant Delight Nursery hosts open house

Wake County’s Plant Delights Nursery is having its summer open house from July 17-19.

You can purchase plants as well as tour the nursery’s 10-acre Juniper Level Botanic Garden in southern Wake County.

The open house hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. July 17-18 and 1-5 p.m. July 19. The nursery is at 9241 Sauls Road, Raleigh. Info: plantdelights.com

Save the date for the nursery’s fall open house dates: Sept. 11-13 and 18-20.

Orchid Growers’ Day at Raleigh arboretum

The Triangle Orchid Society is hosting a seminar from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. July 25 at the JC Raulston Arboretum.

The event is designed for novices or people who are attracted to orchids but might be intimidated about growing these beautiful plants. This event will include experts talking about such topics as which orchids to grow, how to get an orchid to bloom again and how to repot an orchid.

The cost is $20, payable at the door, which includes lunch, refreshments and membership in the society for the remainder of 2015. Space is limited and preregistration is required by July 23.

The seminar will be held at the Ruby C. McSwain Education Center, JC Raulston Arboretum, 4415 Beryl Road, Raleigh.

Save the date for pawpaw festival

The eighth annual NC pawpaw festival will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Forsyth County Agriculture Building in Winston-Salem.

The free event will include a cooking demonstration, tastings of pawpaw dishes, tours of the county extension’s pawpaw orchard and lectures about pawpaw folklore and commercial production. Fruits, seeds and trees will be available for purchase.

The event is at 1450 Fairchild Road, Winston-Salem.
