A fairy statue

Francie the Fairy graces Bernie Brown’s North Raleigh backyard like a lucky clover.

Francie the Fairy graces our backyard like a lucky clover. The impatiens bloom just for her, and sparrows sing to make her smile.

She lives behind the door from Beatrix Potter’s farm in Cumbria. When a thunderstorm sends all the birds to shelter, and the weight of the raindrops makes the blossoms droop, Francie stays safe behind its arch. When the storm passes, Francie sounds the all clear. The flowers raise their heads, and the birds flutter back to the feeder. This enchanted creature beats the heart of our garden.

Without Francie, it would be just another ivy-covered bank.
