‘The Artist’s Garden’ exhibit opening in Winston-Salem

Reynolda House Museum of American Art has an exhibit for garden and art fans alike.

American impressionism and the popularity of gardening as a leisure activity is the focus of a major exhibition opening, “The Artist’s Garden: American Impressionism and the Garden Movement, 1887-1920.” The exhibition will be on view until Jan. 3.

Philadelphia Magazine called the exhibition “the best of the genre,” and it includes the work of the American impressionist artists William Merritt Chase, Childe Hassam, Cecilia Beaux, Maria Oakey Dewing, Frederick Carl Frieseke, John Twachtman and J. Alden Weir.

Order seedlings from the N.C. Forest Service

This is the time of year where the public can order seedlings from the N.C. Forest Service Nursery Program.

The state forest service produces about 20 million seedlings for 54 species of conifer and hardwood trees each year at its nurseries, including one in Goldsboro.

You can check out a catalog of the available trees online at buynctrees.com.

The catalog shares information on the types of tree species, quantities and costs. Each tree description includes information about ideal planting locations and whether a species is typically used for the benefit of wildlife or restoring habitats.

Seedlings can be ordered online, by mail or by phone at 888-NCTREES (888-628-7337) using a Visa or MasterCard. To order by mail, complete an order form and send it to Seedling Coordinator, 762 Claridge Nursery Road, Goldsboro, NC 27530.

Distribution of seedlings begins in the fall, depending on weather conditions. Seedling orders are shipped to one of 13 locations statewide for free or via UPS for a charge.
