Craft classes at Durham’s Scrap Exchange

Durham’s Scrap Exchange has a few interesting craft classes. Here are the details:

▪ Scrappy Fabric Wreaths. Learn how to make seasonal, year-round wreaths using scrap fabrics. All tools and materials are provided. Cost: $10. 2-3 p.m. Oct. 18.

▪ Basic Sewing Workshop. This class is designed for beginners and re-entry sewers. This class covers tools and sewing concepts, machine threading and troubleshooting, straight stitch, zig-zag and applique stitches. Cost: $30. 12:30-4:30 p.m. Oct. 25. and 12:30-4:30 p.m. Nov. 15.

▪ Doll Knitting. This class is for students who are familiar with basic knitting. The class will cover the pattern structure for the doll as well as ways to knit other styles. All tools and materials provided. Cost: $30. 1-4 p.m. Nov. 7.

Registration is suggested. Space is limited.

Garden retreat next Saturday

Anita Avent, co-owner of Juniper Level Botanic Garden in Raleigh, is hosting a two-hour sensory garden retreat on Oct. 24.

The retreat “is designed to quiet the thinking mind, awaken the senses and relax the body,” according to a press release. Avent is a mindfulness speaker and writer. She runs the garden and Plant Delights nursery and mail order business with her husband, Tony Avent, a well-known plantsman.

The class, 10 a.m.-noon, costs $40. Pre-registration is required. Call 919-772-4794.

Garage Gallery and Plant Sale

Raleigh’s Lasting Impressions is having annual Garage Gallery and Plant Sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 24.

Hypertufa troughs and handcast concrete leaves will be 20 percent off. The plants available for sale are locally grown and ready for fall planting. Lasting Impressions is located at 4904 Hermitage Drive, Raleigh.
