‘Nature of Drawing’ class offered

Plant Delights Nursery and Juniper Level Botanic Garden are offering the class “The Nature of Drawing: Fundamentals of Botanic Illustration in the Winter Garden” on Feb. 27.

The class will be taught by Preston Montague on 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the garden’s education center.

Preston holds a master’s degree of landscape architecture degree from N.C. State University as well as bachelor’s degrees in horticulture and fine art. Preston uses botanical illustration as a medium to teach drawing and observation skills in an effort to encourage environmental awareness and natural science literacy, according to a press release about the class.

This class introduces participants to the observation skills and drawing techniques necessary to visualize the plants and animals that nourish our love for nature. The workshop provides tips and tactics for building a foundation of drawing proficiency in a fun and encouraging atmosphere, and is designed for enthusiasts with little to no artistic training.

The class fee is $160. Pre-registration is required. Visit jlbg.org or call 919-772-4794.
