3 upcoming home tours in Triangle and beyond

If your idea of a lovely weekend afternoon is touring new or historic homes, these events are for you.

▪ The Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties is hosting its eighth annual Home Roam Tour, which will feature six modernist homes in Durham’s Duke Forest neighborhood. The event is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. April 16. It costs $25-$30.

▪ The 16th annual Remodelers Home Tour featuring more than a dozen Wake County homes is next weekend. The free, self-guided tour is organized by the Remodelers Council of the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County. The hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. April 23 and 1-5 p.m. April 24.

▪ If you want a short road trip, the Little Washington Home and Garden Tour will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. April 23. The tour includes 10 homes, including the Elmwood house built in 1820 and lauded in the 1857 edition of Harper’s Weekly magazine as one of the South’s most distinguished homes, and the Potts-Bragaw home built in 1870 with 21 rooms, a grand staircase and six fireplaces.

The event is organized by the Washington Area Historic Foundation. Advance tickets cost $20 and can be purchased at the Washington Chamber of Commerce, Washington Visitors Center, Little Shops on West Main Street and Coffee Caboose. Tickets on the day of the event cost $25 and can be purchased at Coffee Caboose, 111 S. McNair St.

10th annual Open Garden Art Show and Plant Sale

Raleigh’s Lasting Impressions is having its 10th annual Open Garden Art Show and Plant Sale from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April 23.

This year’s event will feature 15 local artists selling pottery, jewelry, woodworking, metal and mosaic garden art, botanical art, birdhouses, hypertufa troughs and concrete leaves. There is also a large plant sale of wildflowers, shade and sun perennials, ground covers and hostas.

The garden is at at 4904 Hermitage Drive, Raleigh.

Upcoming tomato talks

Two local tomato gardening experts have upcoming events.

▪ Raleigh garden writer Craig LeHoullier, author of the best-selling book, “Epic Tomatoes,” will speak 5-6 p.m. April 23 at Raleigh’s Well Fed Garden, 1321 Athens Drive, Raleigh.

Durham garden writer Frank Hyman will speak at 7 p.m. April 25 at The Granville Gardeners’ monthly meeting in Oxford. Hyman will cover tomato varieties, growing, trellising, bugs, weeds, diseases, irrigation and mulch, as well answer questions. The meetings are held at Granville County Expo Center, 4185 U.S. 15 South, Oxford.

Bonsai show in Raleigh next weekend

The Triangle Bonsai Society is hosting a show with more than 50 trees on display at Raleigh’s JC Raulston Aboretum on April 23-24.

The free event includes demonstrations at 1 and 3 p.m. April 23, vendors and society members on hand to answers questions about the trees and the art form.

Event hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. April 23 and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. April 24.

If you are interested in learning how to create a bonsai, the arboretum is hosting a class May 14. Go to jcra.ncsu.edu for more details. The arboretum is at 4415 Beryl Road.

Raleigh Garden Club annual plant sale next weekend

The Raleigh Garden Club is hosting a three-day plant sale at Campbell Road Nursery.

The sale of annuals, perennials, herbs and vegetables will be 11 a.m.-5 p.m. April 21, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. April 22 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. April 23. The Gardeners of Wake County also will sell azaleas.

The nursery is at 2500 Campbell Road at the corner of Tryon Road.
