Raleigh garden centers offer classes
Both Atlantic Avenue Orchid and Garden and Fairview Garden Center have a bunch of upcoming gardening and do-it-yourself classes.
At Atlantic Avenue Orchid and Garden, pre-registration is required. Here is the lineup:
▪ “Gardening for Newcomers” will cover soil preparation, plant selection and planting methods for gardening in Zone 7B. It will be held at 10:30 a.m. April 23 and 2 p.m. May 15. Free.
▪ Raleigh garden writer Helen Yoest will speak about the subject of her latest book, “Good Berries, Bad Berries,” at 10 a.m. May 7. Free.
▪ Learn how to make your own fairy garden at 1 p.m. May 11 and 10 a.m. May 14. Cost: $25 for adults, $10 for children. Limit of one child per adult.
▪ Learn how to landscape your pond at 11 a.m. May 14. Free.
▪ Learn how to create a succulent garden at 10 a.m. May 21. Cost: $20. Come prepared to purchase container or bring one from home.

At Fairview Garden Center, the classes also require pre-registration. Here is the schedule:
▪ “Big Color, Easy Plants” class will be 10 a.m. May 7. Free.
▪ A make-and-take container gardening workshop will be 10 a.m. May 14. Cost: $15.
▪ Learn the basics of organic gardening at 10 a.m. May 21. Free.
All Saturday classes are followed at 11:30 a.m. by a mini food truck rodeo.

Annual plant sale in Clayton
Johnston County’s annual Master Gardener Plant Sale will be 8 a.m.-noon April 30 at the Clayton Community Center.
Among the plants for sale will be natives, annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs, house plants and more – all grown by master gardeners. Also for sale will be trees and shrubs grown by local nurseries and an assortment of gently used gardening books, tools, equipment and garden art.
Proceeds benefit the school and community outreach programs run by the Johnston County Extension Master Gardeners Volunteer Association.
The sale will be at 715 Amelia Church Road, Clayton.

Chatham County pollinator garden workshops
Chatham County extension agent Debbie Roos has announced times and dates for her very popular pollinator workshops.
Roos designed the extension’s pollinator garden outside Chatham Mills in Pittsboro.
The pollinator conservation workshop and garden tour will be 1-5 p.m. May 18 and May 21 and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. June 6 at the agriculture building in Pittsboro. (The same workshop is offered on three different dates. Class size is limited to 20.) Cost: $25.
Pre-registration is required. To get registration form, which must be mailed with check, go to chatham.ces.ncsu.edu.
