Meet author and designer Barb Blair in Raleigh on June 3

Durham’s Spoonflower is sponsoring a crafting night and book launch event for author Barb Blair on June 3 in Raleigh.

Blair, founder of Knack, a design studio and shop in Greenville, S.C., has a new book, “Furniture Makes the Room.” The book has instructions for 15 before-and-after furniture projects including dressers, tables, beds and more. Blair will show attendees how to make a refinished jewelry box using supplies provided by Spoonflower, a digital custom fabric firm in Durham.

The free event is 6:30-9 p.m. June 3 at Ramble Supply Co., 123 E. Martin St., Raleigh.

N.C. Quilt Symposium is next weekend

The 2016 North Carolina Quilt Symposium will be June 2-5 at Raleigh’s William Peace University.

The three-day event, “Quilting With the Stars,” will include a quilt show, more than 35 vendors and a silent auction of 18-inch quilts to benefit Military Missions in Action.

The event also will feature workshops by 22 nationally known instructors on color theory, hand quilting, fiber art, hand applique, machine quilting, hand piecing, digital quilt design, landscape quilting, English paper piecing, machine applique, foundation paper piecing, thread painting, 3-D applique and free-motion quilting.

The hours are noon-6 p.m. June 2, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. June 3-4. Admission is $8 per day. It will be at the university’s Hermann Athletic Center, 15 E. Peace St.
