SAFE Haven for Cats, like many other animal shelters, has a lot of kittens during the summer. And they need supplies to care for them.

Summer is the peak time of year when cats give birth, causing an influx of homeless litters into local shelters and rescues.

So the animal rescue is hosting a “Kitten Shower” on Friday. It’s a baby shower for kittens where the rescue is asking supporters to bring food and other supply items from its registry.

The Kitten Shower will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at SAFE Haven, 8431 Garvey Drive #137, Raleigh. Also at the event, visitors will get to suggest names for kittens, purchase “kitten artwork” and enjoy cupcakes.

Visitors also will be able to preview kittens and cats in the shelter up for adoption ahead of this weekend’s “Kitten Palooza.”

Kitten Palooza will be held Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. At the event, all cats and kittens will be available for adoption for $50 to make space for more kittens born during the height of kitten season.
