Relay for Life will kick off Friday at Leesville Road High School
Groups from across Raleigh will gather this week for Relay for Life, the annual fundraising event for the American Cancer Society.
This year’s relay will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Leesville Road High School and end at 7 a.m. Saturday.
Teams, many from local churches, will walk non-stop around the track throughout the night to make the point that cancer never sleeps.
The event begins with a lap for all those affected by cancer, followed by a special lap for cancer survivors and then a lap to honor those who are caregivers for cancer patients. At 9 p.m., a luminary ceremony will honor those who have lost their lives to cancer.
To end the event, a final lap will celebrate the strides that have been taken in the fight against cancer.
Relay for Life is designed to remember those lost to cancer, honor those who have survived it and raise money for the work done by the American Cancer Society.
