Third arrest made in Leinbach Park mass shooting. One of shooters among the dead, police say

The Winston-Salem Police Department released new details Friday in Monday's park shooting that resulted in two deaths and five injuries, including that one of the alleged shooters was among the dead.

The department also confirmed that the incident began with an arranged fight between 14-year-old and 16-year-old girls at Leinbach Park, which is adjacent to Jefferson Middle School.

As word of the fight spread, a crowd of about 15 people, including juveniles and adults, eventually gathered.

Two separate fights involving four males then broke out. When the situation escalated, Joel Michael Gamble-Toliver, 18, and Daniel Jiminez-Milian, 16, pulled guns and began shooting, police said.

Milian, who officers found dead scene from gunshot wounds, reportedly fired his gun at Erubey Romero Medina, 17, who also died in the shootout. Gamble-Toliver, who was injured after being targeted by Medina, reportedly fired at Milian.

Other injuries involved females aged 14, 15, 17 and 19.

Police have not filed murder or assault charges related to the shooting.

However, Gamble-Toliver was arrested Monday and charged with child abuse, inciting a riot and illegal possession of a firearm. He is being held in the Forsyth County Jail under a $25,000 bond.

Steven Villanueva, 17, was arrested and charged with inciting a riot. A judge set his bond Friday at $50,000. Villanueva is being held in the Alexander Juvenile Detention Center in Taylorsville.

On Friday, Yamilet Jimenez-Milian, 21, was arrested and also charged with felony inciting a riot. After appearing before a magistrate, she was on a 24-hour hold and will face a $50,000 secured bond, the police department said.

More charges are expected in the shooting, the department said.

"I appreciate the community's patience, especially given that this incident occurred on Monday and involved many moving parts," Chief William Penn Jr. said in a statement Friday. "We recognize that this case has generated significant public interest. However, our goal is not merely an arrest, but to maintain the integrity of the investigation to ensure a successful prosecution."
