Conover home destroyed by morning fire on Friday; fire chief said flames started in attic

A house burned down in a neighborhood off Rock Barn Road in Conover on Friday.

A fire alarm at a home on the 600 block of Seventh Street Northeast in Conover was called into Catawba County Communications at 11:48 a.m. on Friday. Within three minutes, Conover Fire Department was at the scene, Conover Fire Chief Mark Stafford said.

Stafford said the attic was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The home is a total loss.

The fire began in the attic of the house. The fire was accidental. No injuries were reported, Stafford said.

Conover Fire Department was still on the scene as of 2 p.m. on Friday. Fire departments from Newton, Claremont and Long View also responded to the fire, Stafford said.
