Police charge two 15-year-olds with inciting riot tied to deadly park shooting in Winston-Salem

Two 15-year-old girls were charged on Thursday with inciting a riot in connection with the April 20 deadly mass shooting at Leinbach Park in Winston-Salem, authorities said.

That brings the total to seven people charged in connection with the mass shooting. However, officers have not issued any murder, manslaughter or assault charges in the case.

On Thursday, officers charged the teen girls with inciting a riot that caused a death, Winston-Salem police said.

Under state law, the girls are each charged with a felony, police said. The girls were taken to a Guilford Juvenile Detention Center in Greensboro.

Police didn't identify the girls because of their age.

The girls are among seven people charged with inciting a riot and offenses in connection with the mass shooting.

The shooting resulted in the deaths of two Winston-Salem teenagers and injuries to five others. Daniel Jimenez-Milian, 16, and Erubey Romero Medina, 17, died in the shooting.

Police have arrested and charged Greidy Mendoza-Soriano, 16, and Karissa Gamez, 16, with inciting a riot leading to death and inciting a riot causing property damage or serious injury.

Joel Michael Gamble-Toliver, 18, is charged with engaging in a riot that resulted in a death and inciting a riot that caused a death.

Yamilet Jimenez-Milian, 21, and Steven Villanueva, 17, are charged with inciting a riot.

The charges stem from an arranged fight between 14-year-old and 16-year-old girls at Leinbach Park, which is adjacent to Jefferson Middle School.

As word of the fight spread, a crowd of about 15 people, including juveniles and adults, gathered at the park.

Two separate fights involving four males broke out. When the situation escalated, Gamble-Toliver and Daniel Jiminez-Milian pulled guns and began shooting, police said.

Milian, found dead at the scene from gunshot wounds, reportedly fired his gun at Medina, who also died amid the gunfire.

Gamble-Toliver reportedly fired at Milian, police said. Other injuries involved females ages 14, 15, 17 and 19.
