Meet the Rotary Club of Marion's Student and Athlete of the Week
On Thursday, the Rotary Club of Marion recognized Mason Ratliff as the Academic Student of the Week and Avery Watson as the Athlete of the Week.
They are both from McDowell High and were introduced to the club by Rotarian Mike Rabb. They received certificates from President Dave Watson.
Ratliff is the son of Jason and Chesni Ratliff. He lives in Marion and is in the 12th grade at McDowell High.
He plans to attend McDowell Technical Community College and get a degree in business and hopefully own his own gym. He wants to study business administration.
His school or community recognitions include earning the Certificate of Academic Excellence (3.9 GPA or higher) all years of high school, cords for CTE honor society and for making a platinum on the Workkeys test. He earned seven hours of community service and was a junior marshal in his junior year.
His extracurricular activities include track in freshman and sophomore year, DECA member in sophomore year and National Honor Society member in senior year.
He enjoys video games, football and basketball, weightlifting and working out.
Watson is the son of Leo and Emma Watson. He lives in Marion and is in the 11th grade at McDowell High.
He plans to attend Sandhills Community College and study turf grass management.
His school or community recognitions include going to states for golf.
He enjoys golf.
