Dog revived after Concord house fire displaces family

CONCORD - A family was displaced last week after a fire damaged a home on Patrick Avenue Southwest, according to the Concord Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched at 5:09 p.m. on May 17 to a reported house fire at 245 Patrick Ave. SW. Crews arrived within three minutes and found heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the home on both the first and second floors, officials said.

The fire was brought under control within 18 minutes, and no injuries were reported.

Neighbors alerted the residents to the fire, allowing everyone inside the home to escape safely before firefighters arrived. However, the family told firefighters their dog was still inside the house.

Firefighters entered the home and rescued the dog from the basement. The dog was unconscious when crews carried it outside, according to the fire department.

Firefighters used a pet oxygen mask and treated the dog for about 20 minutes before successfully reviving it. Officials said the dog later walked around on its own.

A total of 29 firefighters responded to the scene, including one ladder truck, four engines, one rescue unit, two battalion chiefs, one safety officer and two fire investigators.

The Concord Fire Department was assisted by the Concord Police Department and Cabarrus County EMS.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The American Red Cross assisted the displaced residents.
