Winston-Salem woman charged in I-40 exit ramp crash that killed 2

A Winston-Salem woman was charged on Wednesday with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in a May 17 traffic crash that killed two people, the Winston-Salem Police Department said in a news release.

Crystal Robles, 32, is also charged with reckless driving, speeding, driving with an expired registration tag and failure to maintain lane control, according to an arrest warrant.

What happened?

According to a warrant, Robles was driving 112 mph on Interstate 40 when her BMW crashed into a car sitting on an exit ramp around 2 a.m. on May 17.

Shawn Derek Arthur, 54, and Karen Bibb Arthur, 36, were inside a 2008 Toyota, which was stopped on the right shoulder on the highway's exit ramp, police said.

Both were killed in the crash.

Robles was released from custody on an unsecured $500,000 bond, according to a court record. She is scheduled to appear in Forsyth District Court on June 4, according to the release.
