McDonald's corporate restructuring will affect 28 jobs in Raleigh
A corporate restructuring at McDonald's will affect 28 employees at the fast-food chain's USA East Division Office in Raleigh.
In a letter this week to the N.C. Department of Commerce and to Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane, McDonald's said it's permanently closing one of two offices at 4601 Six Forks Road and thinning the employee ranks of the second office at that address.
All told, McDonald's has 38 employees here. Of those, 18 are being laid off and 10 have the option of accepting a demotion or leaving the company. All layoffs will be effective April 1.
McDonald's is in the midst of a fianancial tailspin and a corporate identity crisis, pushing out CEO Don Thompson this week and also laying off 63 employees at its corporate headquarters in Oak Brook, Ill.
The McDonald's layoff notice was signed by U.S. Senior Vice President Karen King, the company's Chief People Officer. King, who had worked for McDonald's since she was a teenager, was called out of retirement last year to help lead the burger empire as the company's fortunes were slipping.
