Dillard’s at University Mall in Chapel Hill to close in January
The Dillard’s store at University Mall in Chapel Hill is closing in January, to be replaced by a 13-screen movie complex.
The closing will result in the loss of 33 jobs, but a Dillrad’s spokeswoman said the employees would be offered jobs at other local stores.
Dillard’s announced the layoffs in a letter filed last week with the N.C. Department of Commerce. The layoffs are expected to take effect between Jan. 15 and 31.
Last week, Silverspot Cinema unveiled plans to build a $7 million theater complex with its own restaurant in the Dillard’s space. It will be the fifth domestic location for the company, a division of Cines Unidos – one of the largest theater companies in South America.
The theater will be joined at the mall by four new boutiques, a sporting goods store and a new restaurant.
