Verizon retailer moving headquarters to Wake plans to create 250 jobs
A nationwide Verizon retailer, a company called A Wireless with more than 1,150 stores, is shifting its headquarters to Wake County and plans to create 250 jobs over the next five years.
The move by A Wireless, which employs more than 5,500 workers, was announced late Tuesday by the N.C. Department of Commerce and Wake County Economic Development, the recruitment arm of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce.
The 250 executive, operations and administrative jobs planned for Raleigh are expected to pay an annual wage of $92,000, according to data provided by the state.
A Wireless is the largest independent retailer, based on the number of stores, that exclusively sells Verizon wireless service, the Commerce Department said. According to the privately held company's website, it was founded in Wilson in 1996 and today has dual headquarters in Greenville, N.C., and Eden Prairie, Minn.
"We are thrilled to locate our corporate headquarters in Wake County," A Wireless CEO George Sherman said in a prepared statement. "The community's robust job market, skilled people, vibrant growth and strong technology base provide the right resources for us to continue our rapid growth."
A Wireless is eligible to receive up to $3.3 million in Job Development Investment Grant incentives by the state over the next 12 years, which is contingent on the company meeting its job and investment targets. The company plans to invest $4.95 million in its headquarters.
