10 businesses accounted for 37 percent of Better Business Bureau of ENC complaints

Ten businesses in North Carolina attracted nearly 37 percent of all unresolved or unanswered complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau of Eastern North Carolina in 2017.

▪ eRummagers in Raleigh, an online fashion boutique, ranked No. 1 with 75 unanswered or unresolved complaints and an “F” rating with the BBB. Most of the complaints were for delivery issues, including customers paying for orders and not receiving them.

▪ Love and War Clothing in Raeford, an online boutique selling custom apparel aimed at military consumers, had 25 unanswered or unresolved complaints and an “F” rating. Most complaints were for delivery issues, including customers paying for but not receiving orders. The company also was unresponsive toward customers seeking a refund. The owner of Love & War Clothing is also the owner of Southern Alternative LLC, a storefront boutique in Fayetteville.

▪ Backyard Produce LLC in Cary, a produce and baked goods delivery service, had 20 unanswered or unresolved complaints and an “F” rating. The majority of complaints dealt with service and billing issues, with most complainants paying for but never receiving services. Backyard Produce is no longer in businesses.

▪ Thurbers Educational Assessment in Chapel Hill, a standardized testing company, had 17 unanswered or unresolved complaints and an “F” rating. Most complaints were for customers not receiving materials ordered. The company was unresponsive toward customers.

▪ As Seen on TV in Garner, an online retailer selling trendy products, had 14 unanswered or unresolved complaints and an “F” rating. Most complaints said the products were not delivered and the company ignored refund requests. This company is not to be confused with the storefront “As Seen On TV” at Triangle Towne Center in Raleigh.

▪ Tooth and Nail Cosmetics in New Bern, an indie cosmetics company, had 10 unanswered or unresolved complaints and an “F” rating. Most complaints were for damaged products or orders canceled without explanation.

▪ Gerry’s Tree and Landscaping in Raleigh, a landscaping company, had eight unanswered or unresolved complaints and an “F” rating. Many complaints said the company failed to perform services after an initial deposit.

▪ Waste Industries LLC in Raleigh, a trash and recycling collection company, had eight unanswered or unresolved complaints and an “F” rating. Most complaints were for service and billing issues.

▪ Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, headquartered in Chapel Hill, had six unanswered or unresolved complaints and an “F” rating. Most complaints were service and billing issues.

▪ The News and Observer Publishing Company in Raleigh, had six unanswered or unresolved complaints and a “D-” rating. Most complaints were for billing issues.
