One of Kroger's Creedmoor Road stores is closing this week
Kroger announced on Monday that it is shutting down one of its Triangle stores this week.
The Kroger at 6300-150 Creedmoor Road will close Tuesday, July 10, more than a month ahead of the company's original closing date. The Kroger at 8345 Creedmoor Road will remain open until Aug. 14. Cincinnati-based Kroger announced on June 13, that all of its Kroger stores in the Triangle would close on Aug. 14.
According to a statement from Kroger, the Creedmoor Road store is closing at the request of Crunch Fitness, which is buying the store.
Associates at the Creedmoor Road store will be transferred to other Kroger stores in the Raleigh-Durham market.
The remaining 13 stores in Raleigh and Durham are still slated to close on Aug. 14; 1,652 people will lose their jobs.
Of the remaining stores, eight will become Harris Teeter stores, including the 8345 Creedmoor Road store. Food Lion will acquire the store at 7905 Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh.
Danna Robinson, communications manager for Harris Teeter, said there is no timetable for the Harris Teeter renovations at this time. The Food Lion location is scheduled to open in early 2019, said Matthew Harakal, a spokesman for Food Lion.
Five of the Kroger-Harris Teeter pharmacies will remain open to customers during the remodeling of the stores.
The pharmacies are at these locations:
▪ 5116 N. Roxboro Road in Durham
▪ 1273 N.W. Maynard Road in Cary
▪ 940 U.S. 64 in Apex
▪ 1802 North Point Dr. in Durham
▪ 1371 E. Board St. in Fuquay-Varina
Thomas Guastello, president of Center Management, the real estate company that owns the Kroger building at 350 E. Six Forks Road in Raleigh, said at least eight possible tenants have approached him about the location. He said it's possible the space will be divided up among multiple tenants. He was unable to specify when a new tenant will take over the space.
Kroger is holding a job fair for its associates at 11 a.m. on July 17 and 18 at the Hampton Inn Airport in Raleigh. The company will offer resumé assistance at 10 a.m. before the fair. Companies such as Food Lion, Lowes Foods, Lidl and Walmart will attend the event.
