Durham’s Implus sells athletic and outdoor gear. It just bought its 20th company.
Implus, which started out 30 years ago selling footwear accessories, has acquired RockTape, a provider of athletic tape, for an undisclosed amount.
Durham-based Implus has grown through acquisitions over the past several years and now sells athletic, fitness and outdoor accessories to more than 75,000 retail outlets in North America and in 70 countries. Buying RockTape, which sells kinesiology tape and other health and wellness products, will allow Implus to expand its wellness presence.
RockTape is based in Campbell, California, and those offices will remain open, according to a press release announcing the acquisition.
“We’re excited to be partnering with the RockTape team and think the brand has massive room for growth within our current distribution network,” Implus CEO Seth Richards said in the release. “In addition, the existing team’s experience in the Clinical channel should provide tangible benefits for a number of our other brands.”
RockTape will work under Implus’ umbrella of brands, which include FuelBelt, Harbinger, Sof Sole and Airplus. RockTape is the ninth acquisition Implus has made since Berkshire Partners of Boston invested in the firm in 2015, and its 20th acquisition over all.
“My team and partners at RockTape built an awesome business by providing great product and relevant education with the key focus of making people’s lives better,” Greg van den Dries, CEO of RockTape, said in the press release. “I think Implus is the perfect partner to build on those core values.”
