Kane breaks ground in North Hills on the Triangle’s tallest residential tower yet

The ever-expanding North Hills residential and commercial district in Midtown Raleigh will soon include the tallest residential tower built in the city.

Kane Realty Corp. has begun construction of the 35-story Walter Tower, the Raleigh developer announced Wednesday.

The tower has a move-in time frame set in early 2022, with a full completion aimed for the summer.

Clad with floor to ceiling windows, flooring with luxurious finishes and quartz countertops, the 376 luxury units of the Walter Tower will range from 600-square-foot studio apartments to 2,000-square-foot penthouses — 21 of them with one to three bedrooms. The project will include around 6,500 square feet of retail and an integrated parking deck.

The tower is being built on the corner of Six Forks Road and Front at North Hills Street in the same area as the under-construction Advance Auto Parts Tower, the CAPTRUST Tower, the Bank of America Tower and nearby retail and residential space. It will include a rooftop indoor and outdoor lounge, a sixth-level pool deck and a 3,500-square-foot fitness center, along with other residential services.

Hannah Smith of Kane Realty told The News & Observer in an email that price ranges and preleasing dates haven’t been set yet.

The project has changed since The News & Observer first reported the original plans for it in the summer of 2018. It originally was 33 stories tall and included a hotel, and construction was meant to start later that year.

John Kane could not be reached by phone for more information about the changed plans for the Walter Tower.

Kane Realty has also announced plans to demolish the J.C. Penney store at North Hills to make space for multiple mixed-use towers of 10 to 12 stories.
