Want to improve your golf game? Durham has you covered with new Golftec location
Golftec, a global leader in golf instruction and club fittings, has opened a new, 3,300-square-foot Triangle location in Durham.
The facility features five golf simulator bays equipped with OptiMotion — proprietary technology that analyzes player swings and complements in-person instruction from a slate of golf experts.
“We can measure how your body is moving through the swing and actually quantify in degrees and inches where you need to improve,” Eric Jordan, director of instruction and center manager at Durham’s Golftec, told the News & Observer.
The machine assembles recommendations by comparing user data with that of 50 PGA and LPGA pro golfers.
“So we’re not just winging it by looking at you,” Jordan said. “In the golf world, people sometimes think it’s just some guy’s opinion. But this is fact-based off a lot of research.”
A similar program called TECPUTT analyzes face angle, loft and path direction of putting strokes.
Golftec selected its new Durham site, at 3604 Witherspoon Blvd. Suite 101, following demand from patrons at its other Triangle locations, Jordan said, and because of the new facility’s proximity to several golf courses.
“People were asking for a Durham spot,” he said. “And I think we’ve got like eight courses all within 27 minutes of here.”
Besides instruction, Golftec offers a “tour-like” club fitting experience, using player swing characteristics and ball flight data to determine optimal equipment. The company says most golfers can expect to gain an average of 25 yards after completing its club fitting program.
“In all respects,” Jordan said, “we help people play better golf.”
The Durham location officially opened Saturday, but is operating on a limited schedule until Jordan finishes hiring staff, all of whom must have graduated from Golftec University, a multi-week certification program. By Oct. 25, the facility should be open seven days per week, Jordan said.
