Publix is coming to Rolesville as part of a major overhaul to its main strip
One of North Carolina’s fastest growing towns will see sweeping renovation to its main strip in coming years, including the addition of a Publix grocery store.
Crosland Southeast, a commercial real estate developer based in Raleigh, announced that Publix will serve as anchor tenant in the company’s 78-acre Wallbrook community, which will span much of Main Street Rolesville.
The $120 million mixed-use development is expected to break ground by the second quarter of 2022 and open its first section in the summer of 2023, according to a press release. The development will include grocery, retail, restaurant, residential and medical uses.
“Rolesville has been primarily residential and a lot of schools have been built,” Austin Williams, a partner at Crosland Southeast told The News & Observer. “Really the only thing missing is that there’s just not been the opportunity from a real estate standpoint — from a positioning on Main Street and connectivity standpoint — for somebody to get a hold of a large enough tract of land to do something that transformative. And so we’re fortunate to have that opportunity.”
Publix, which Crosland Southeast secured in partnership with Wilmington’s Harbour Retail Partners, will be among the first construction projects, along with “some related commercial buildings,” according to Williams. Later sections, including a neighborhood of 140 town houses, will follow an imprecise timeline.
“It’s really up to the market, how quick additional uses will be delivered,” Williams said. “But we hope probably within three to four years that we can be completed and or under construction on every corner and every component.”
Rolesville, about half an hour northeast of Raleigh, is among the state’s fastest growing towns, according to 2020 census data. It grew from fewer than 4,000 residents to 9,475 over the past 10 years, giving it the fifth highest growth rate in North Carolina, according to the town’s website.
