A franchise furniture store will fill the former A.C. Moore retail space at Durham’s Patterson Place shopping center.

Furniture Bell, a new iteration of the nationwide Regency Furniture chain, is expected to open at the Witherspoon Boulevard complex on Feb. 1, according to a press release from TradeMark Properties, which oversees leasing at the complex. The complex is located off U.S. 15-501.

The store’s owners, Hijaz and Mohammed Hijaz, operate a Regency Furniture location in Raleigh, two in Fayetteville and one in Detroit.

“Patterson Place is the perfect fit for us,” Hijaz Hijaz said in a release. “We were looking for a big space in a big shopping center and we found it in this busy location.”

The 21,315-square-foot retail space previously housed an A.C. Moore. The arts and crafts store closed in 2020 along with 144 other locations around the country.

Furniture Bell will be the eighth anchor store at Patterson Place. The others are Home Depot, Big Lots, Bed Bath & Beyond, Total Wine, DSW, PetSmart and Kohl’s. Besides “new and classic styles” from well-known furniture brands, Furniture Bell plans to dedicate 5,000 square feet of its new location to custom wood furniture.

“Patterson Place is uniquely positioned to serve both the Durham and Chapel Hill markets,” Brian Grabowski, TradeMark senior vice president, said in a press release. “It stands out because of its mix of both locally-owned businesses as well as recognizable national brands. Since our other anchor spaces are well-represented by national names, I am pleased that a large local business will now be launched here as well.”
