Burlington Stores, formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory, will open a new Durham location to replace its North Roxboro Road store, according to the New Jersey-based company.

The new store will open on Feb. 25, at 1515 North Pointe Drive in the North Pointe Center strip mall. It will be the Triangle’s fifth Burlington after another Durham site opened in March at 5430 New Hope Commons Drive.

The company has opened stores in Concord, Hickory and Monroe over the past few months.

North Carolina’s new locations are part of Burlington’s long-term plan to operate 2,000 stores, RetailWire reported in March. The company is shifting away from its traditional department store model and emphasizing a smaller-scale shopping experience.

The company, which rebranded as Burlington in 2014 to reflect a more diverse product selection than just coats, opened about 40 new locations nationwide in the first half of 2021 and another 60 in the last several months, according to its website.

Its stores feature “off-price” products — designer and branded items up to 60% less expensive than at traditional retailers. Its selection includes men’s, women’s and baby apparel, home decor, footwear, toys and more.

Off-price stores such as Burlington, T.J. Maxx and Ross have thrived in the pandemic, rivaling e-commerce options with more success than traditional malls and full-price retailers. Burlington had expanded to 832 stores in 45 states and Puerto Rico by the end of 2021’s third quarter, according to a press release. It netted $5.8 billion in sales in 2020, the most recent year with available data.
